TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Central Kalimantan Government is preparing a land up to 500,000 hectares in size in the province's Golden Triangle area. The plan is to use the land as a location for the new capital city of Indonesia.
Central Kalimantan Regional Secretary Fahrizal Fitri said that, in regards to the government plan of relocating the state capital, they are making a number of preparations, one of which is the provision of land.
"We have reserved a land of 300,000 to 500,000 hectares for the future location of the new capital city. It is located in the golden triangle of Gunung Mas Regency, Katingan Regency, and Palangka Raya City," he said on Monday, July 29.
The Provincial Government, Fahrizal said, has also mapped the potential development of the area and its leading commodities, such as food estate that covers organic rice, cassava and others.
"We are not only providing the land, but also resources for the capital city, such as food."
Meanwhile, the House of Representatives' Commission XI is on a work visit to Central Kalimantan to hold specific studies of the capital relocation plan.
"We want to know more about Central Kalimantan, as one of the strong candidates for the new nation's capital," DPR Commission XI chairman Michael Jeno said.
