Dozens Indonesian Migrant Workers Deported

2 June 2019 14:13 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - As many as 81 Indonesian migrant workers in Malaysia who are being deported after paying MYR 135 arrived at the Dumai International Port together with the homecomers on Saturday, June 1, 2019.

The self-deportation was welcomed by officers of the Relocation and Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers Service Post (P4TKI) of the Indonesian Migrant Workers Relocation and Protection National Agency (BNP2TKI) at around 2:00 PM.

Following their arrival, the migrant workers were gathered on the port office to conduct document checks and later transferred to P4TKI Office.

"They will be brought to the office to be recorded and later for further returning process," an officer told the press.

Dozens of Indonesian migrant workers from different regions were deported from Port Dickson Malaysia after previously detained at a camp in Machap Umboo, Malacca.

Muhammad Arifin, one of the migrant workers who originated from Flores, East Nusa Tenggara, expressed his excitement because he can finally return to Indonesia to celebrate Eid Al-Fitr after being detained in a camp.

Arifin said that to return to Indonesia, he and the other migrant workers must pay MYR 135, which they gathered by borrowing from friends and families, and were assisted by the local Indonesian Embassy.

"We are happy that we can return to Indonesia after previously being detained for eight months by the Malaysian government," he said.
