TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Senior presidential advisor Agum Gumelar said Kivlan Zen’s insults on Democrat Party chair Susilo “SBY” Bambang Yudhoyono had violated the soldier's ethics.
“However you may want to see it, Pak SBY was elected president twice. In no way should he be insulted that way. I personally see that the soldier’s ethics just do not allow that, especially against fellow military members. SBY was a military general and president,” Agum said at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Friday, May 10.
As a gesture of military camaraderie, the former Army four-star general offered his apologies for the harsh statements made by Kivlan Zen, an ex-chief of staff of the Army's Strategic Reserves Command (Kostrad).

“I truly hope those who are facing situations outside of their expectations to not lash outyour frustrations unethically,” Agum Gumelar reminded.
During a protest he initiated on Thursday, Kivlan went as far to call SBY as a deceitful retired general who did not want any other general aiming at the presidency.
“[SBY] does not want any other retired generals to become president. He’s a cunning man,” said Kivlan Zen, whose presence at the protest had fueled his followers into chanting about disqualifying the Jokowi-Ma’ruf Amin ticket from the 2019 presidential election.
