Consumption Goods Import Up ahead of Ramadan

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Ahead of the fasting month of Ramadan, a number of imported consumption goods have begun to flood the domestic markets. According to the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the import values of some of these items have soared since March.
BPS chief Suhariyanto said that the import value of fresh and dried dates rose to US$19 million in March.

A jump in imports value is also happening to fruit commodities such as oranges and grapes.
In March, the overall value of consumption goods import amounted to US$1.15 billion. The figure shows a 13.49-percent increase compared to the value in February.
