TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan planned to expand railways of MRT Jakarta up to 231 kilometers in the next ten years. The target will be set during the official inauguration of MRT Jakarta Phase I, which is connecting Lebak Bulus and HI Roundabout, at March’s end.
“[President Jokowi] grants the proposal submitted by Jakarta provincial administration in which the project requires Rp571 trillion,” said Anies Wednesday, March 20, at the South Jakarta Mayor Office.

Anies explained that the budget would be used to finance the capital city’s transportation development. Other than MRT railways, the railway of LRT Jakarta would also be expanded up to 120 kilometers. The current length of MRT Jakarta and LRT Jakarta railways amounted to 15.7 kilometers and 5.8 kilometers respectively.
Additionally, Jakarta also planned to construct clean water infrastructure. However, Anies stopped short of detailing the plan concept. “That will be expedited within 10 years,” he noted.
The proposal, Anies continued, also included the plan on the elevation project of railroad crossings. “All railroad crossings will be elevated, so there will be no longer congestion caused by train operations,” Anies Baswedan concluded.
