Bawaslu Jakarta Summons Fadli Zon, Neno Warisman

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta chapter of General Election Commission (Bawaslu) scheduled an investigation on two members of the Prabowo - Sandiaga campaign team, Fadli Zon and Neno Warisman, and the head of Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) of Jakarta today, March 11. The three was summoned over an alleged election violation during the Islamist gathering dubbed Munajat 212.

Bawaslu Jakarta member Puadi said that the examination would take place in different times; MUI Jakarta head at 10:00 local times, Fadli Zon at 14:00 local times, and Neno at 16:00 local times.

“Head of MUI Jakarta has arrived. The investigation is on progress,” Puadi told Tempo Monday, March 11.

Earlier, the national campaign team of Jokowi-Ma’ruf Amin deemed the Munajat 212 was laden with campaigns and a part of politicization of religion. According to the campaign team spokesperson, Ace Hasan Syadzily, it was evident in the two-finger salute made by Gerindra deputy chairman Fadli Zon and the speech delivered by the National Mandate Party (PAN) chairman Zulkifli Hasan, as well as the presence of a number of figures backing presidential candidate number 02, Prabowo Subianto.

Meanwhile, Fadli Zon claimed there was no political element during the mass prayer event. “I think there is no invitation (campaign) or any agenda related to politics. I think the event is still within the corridor,” Fadli told reporters Friday, February 22.
