TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Director of Amnesty International Indonesia Usman Hamid said the case of parking attendants beating up TNI members could be used as a lesson by the regional administration to manage illegal parking.
“Illegal parking has misused the public space,” Usman said in his office on Monday, December 17.
The conflict between parking attendants and the TNI`s Navy personnel took place in the parking lot of Arundina shopping center, Ciracas, East Jakarta, on December 10.
Usman viewed that it is important to control illegal parking, so the regional government will gain a revenue. “In developed cities, parking is managed by the city, regional or state administration,” he said.
The takeover of illegal parking by the regional government, he said, one of which is to reduce the possibility of conflict that occur, like what happened in Arundina.
“During Pak Ahok`s administration (former Governor of Jakarta Basuki Tjahaja Purnama), illegal parking could be managed,” he said.
The aftermath of the attack against TNI members done by parking attendants at the Arundina shopping center, Ciracas, East Jakarta, Monday, December 10, was the burning of Ciracas police station.
In addition to burning Ciracas police station, the raging mob also damaged the house of one of the parking attendants and the East Jakarta Pemuda Pancasila secretariat.
