TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan said a large pile of garbage in Jakarta Bay was caused by people who still litter. Anies appealed to all Jakartans to not recklessly littering in a bid to prevent waste from entering the sea.
“The one who litters is not the city administration, yet clean it up. That is us who dispose of garbages,” said Anies in Grand Cempaka Hotel, Central Jakarta, Wednesday, Dec. 12.
Anies responded to the massive volume of garbage in Jakarta Bay, particularly at Mangrove Forest, behind Marunda apartment, Cilincing, North Jakarta.
The city administration, he said, continuously clean up the garbage. However, he did not deny the people’s habit that commonly dispose of waste everywhere.
Anies further reminded the waste should not enter the river because it highly potentially flows to the estuary. “Do not make river as a garbage bin,” he underlined.
Therefore, Anies still developed strategies to deal with the issue. If the waste already enters the river, the city administration will install a garbage filter so that no waste flows in Jakarta river.
Earlier, Anies Baswedan said that huge filter would be built in 13 natural rivers that enter Jakarta in a bid to prevent a massive pile of waste in several points, such as Manggarai Sluice Gate, South Jakarta. He said massive garbages commonly flow from 13 rivers during rainy season and flood.
