TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono said there were 120 temporary shelters (Huntara) ready to be occupied for the earthquake victims in Central Sulawesi on December 17. It is located in Palu, Sigi and Donggala.

Basuki said that one unit of shelter consisted of 12 rooms. Each room measuring 17 square meters, can be occupied by one family.

“There are fans and electricity. So people will be more comfortable living there than in tents,” he said after attending the Central Sulawesi and NTB disaster reconstruction acceleration meeting at the Office of the Vice President, Jakarta, Wednesday, December 12.

The Ministry of PUPR must build 699 shelters until the end of December. Currently, there are 458 shelters that have been built.

The local administration actually requested the construction of 1,200 shelters. But they can only allocate the land for 699 shelters. After the regional administration provides new land, PUPR will immediately build the remaining 501 shelters.

Based on PUPR data until December 10, PUPR has built 246 of 288 units in Palu, Central Sulawesi. While in Sigi there are 136 units of 223 units that must be built. In Donggala, Basuki noted that 76 units had been built, from the target of 188 units.
