West Java Ulema: Victory of Ma`ruf Amin is Our Dignity

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Dozens of ulema from Karawang, Bandung Raya and Bekasi, declared their support for Jokowi-Ma`ruf at the residence of the vice presidential candidate number 01 Ma`ruf Amin, in Jakarta, Tuesday, December 11.
Representing the ulema, Rais Syuriah deputy of West Java Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), Abun Bunyamin, said he was ready to win Ma’ruf and move from the level of sub-district to the grassroots.
The ulemas want to help win the Jokowi-Ma’ruf pair throughout West Java. “Because for us, the victory of Kiai [Islamic teacher] is also our dignity,” Abun said.
Abun admitted that the task to win Jokowi – Ma’ruf in West Java was not easy. Because, historically, the competitor Prabowo Subianto won the vote in West Java, in the 2014 election.
“Therefore, besides physical efforts, we will also always pray for the victory of Kiai,” he said.
Ma’ruf Amin thanked for the support of the ulema. Despite targeting the victory, Ma’ruf appealed to all parties to keep the election atmosphere conducive.
“Support is carried out in a civilized and polite manner and not to be provoked by certain parties who make the situation chaotic,” he said.
