TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A number of schools from elementary to high school level, as well as villages and sub-districts in Jakarta, received awards related to the legal awareness movement. The awards were given by Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan and Minister of Law and Human Rights Yasonna Laoly.
“This is a good progress and is expected to influence all components of society,” Anies Baswedan said at City Hall, Central Jakarta, Monday, November 19.
Anies stated the law-abiding community is not formed automatically. But it must go through a long process and there is a role for the government that drives it. According to him, the order is that the government teaches, can be accustomed to, becomes a habit, and shape the character of the community. “The order must be maintained,” Anies said.
The Minister Yasonna H. Laoly also gave an award to Governor Anies Baswedan for allocating a budget for legal awareness in Jakarta. He hoped that Anies’s action could be an example for other provinces.
“In West Java, the Provincial Administration gives Rp10 million to the law-abiding villages. It’s like when the red light is on, you have to stop, even if it’s only a ghost crossing,” Yasonna Laoly said.
