Ministry to Hold Special Audit for Lion Air's Boeing Jet

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi said the ministry will hold a special audit for all Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft owned by Lion Air.


"Yesterday we investigated their 11 units of Boeing 737 MAX jets. What we will do next is a special audit," he said in Jakarta, Friday, November 2.

According to Budi, the special audit will include intensification of a series of the 737 aircraft, starting from standard operating procedures (SOP), the aircraft, and the pilots.


He added that the Ministry will also audit the manufacturer, in this case, Boeing. The Ministry has made plans to talk with representatives of the company when they arrive in Indonesia.


The special audit is scheduled to be completed in one to two weeks. Budi said the results would be submitted as investigation materials to the National Transportation Safety Committee (NTSC).


Budi Karya said the Ministry will also intensify ramp checks on 40 percent of Lion Air's aircraft.


Lion Air's flight JT610 fell on the waters of Tanjung Karawang, West Java on Monday, October 29. The Boeing 737 Max8 went off the radar at 06:32, just 12 minutes after taking off from Jakarta's Soekarno-Hatta Airport.


One of the plane's two black boxes was found three days after the crash. on Thursday, November 1. The national army found the cockpit voice recorder (CVR). They are still looking for the flight data recorder (FDR).
