TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - General Elections Commission (KPU) Commissioner Ilham Saputra said the naming of House of Representatives (DPR) deputy speaker Taufik Kurniawan as a suspect will not be the reason of his name to be dropped from the Legislative Election’s final candidates list (DCT) in 2019.

“The DCT cannot be dropped or replaced, especially considering that Taufik Kurniawan is not inkracht and has only been named as a suspect,” said Ilham on Tuesday.

Taufik is a legislative candidate from the National Mandate Party (PAN) at the Central Java election.

Perludem Executive Director Titi Anggraini said that Law No. 7/2017 states that a candidate’s name can be disqualified only if a decision is legally binding or inkracht since an individual is still presumed innocent before being found guilty by law.

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) officially named DPR deputy speaker Taufik Kurniawan as a suspect to a corruption case related to Kebumen District’s special allocation funds (DAK).
