TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Agency for the Valorization of the Agricultural Products (AVPA) awarded coffees originating from Indonesia in the The Salon International de l'Agroalimentaire (SIAL) exhibition in Paris, France.

The award was handed to 11 coffee producers that represent 23 Indonesian coffee beans by AVPA President Philippe Juglar on Tuesday, October 23.

AVPA itself is an organization that assists agricultural producers worldwide upon marketing their products in the European continent and is mainly composed of producers and taste enthusiasts that annually holds the ‘originally roasted coffees’.

André Rocher, AVPA jury and organoleptic expert in its press release stated his surprise upon the varying quality of Indonesian coffee that was present in the competition. Rocher, who has been active in the coffee industry since 1971 said that Indonesian coffee experienced major improvements.

Echoing Rocher, jury Serge Edmond said that several countries has a good roasting quality, which includes Indonesia.

Indonesian coffee beans competed against 170 countries that include coffee-producer giant, Brazil.

AVPA France’s Indonesian country manager Annelis Putri said that Indonesian coffee producers must cohesively promote Indonesian coffees in Europe to be able to compete with coffees from Central America and Latin America.
