TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Minister of Religious Affairs Lukman Hakim Saifuddin asserted that he rejected the behavior of Lesbians, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender or LGBT. In a video shared on social media, Lukman denied an old video circulating that showed as if he was supporting LGBT.

“LGBT is a deviant behavior according to religious teachings, and all religions ban it,” Lukman said in a video posted on the @Kemenag_RI Twitter account, Tuesday, October 16.

The minister hoped that such LGBT acts will not go any further in the society. He, therefore, called on religious community and religious leaders to provide assistance and guidance to the LGBT community empathically.

“The empathic approach is needed and we must avoid insulting, degrading, humiliating, and isolating them, even demeaning and eliminating their existence as humans,” Lukman said.

Minster Lukman also stated that Indonesia is a religious country, so it is impossible for anyone to accept the legalization of LGBT's acts.
