TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A group of individuals calling themselves the National Movement Against Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (Geranati LGBT) staged a demonstration against the upcoming Coldplay concert on Wednesday afternoon, November 15, 2023.
The band is set to perform their first-ever show in Indonesia tonight at the Gelora Bung Karno or GBK Stadium.
“Don't let Coldplay and its LGBT propaganda spread in Indonesia,” an orator on the command car said on Jalan Asia Afrika, Central Jakarta.
The protesters insisted that they would not leave the site until the police canceled the concert. “We won't leave until you disband Coldplay,” the orator stressed.
Tempo observed that the protest began at 12:30 a.m. The masses marched to Jalan Gerbang Pemuda, north of the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) area. However, they failed to enter the GBK complex area and turned to the intersection of Jalan Gerbang Pemuda and Jalan Asia Afrika.
The crowd demanded the police let them hold a demonstration until the concert was stopped. “We beg the police to leave us here. The ones who should disperse are the LGBT people, not us who reject them,” the orator added.
The crowd also asked the police to allow their representatives to tour GBK to ensure that there was no LGBT propaganda at the Coldplay concert venue. “We asked the Regional Police Chief not to let LGBT logos and symbols be installed around GBK,” he said.
