TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesialeaks` platform almost got hacked after it reported an investigation on the destruction of the red bank book which recording company transaction owned by Basuki Hariman. Two former investigators of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), Roland Ronaldy and Harun allegedly torn off the evidence.

“There are IPs (Internet Protocol) that continuously try to enter [Indonesialeaks platform]. One of them is aggressive, but [the platform] is still safe,” said Nawawi Bahrudin, Director of the Legal Aid Institute for the Press (LBH Pers), to Tempo via a short message, Tuesday, Oct 16. LBH Pers is one of the non-media members of Indonesialeaks.

Indonesialeaks is a platform for public informants to share crucial documents anonymously on newsworthy scandals.

Indonesialeaks was currently investigating the case concerning evidence destruction of the red bank book noting the transaction of bribe for several officials, including police’s top brass. A total of 19 transactions for police officials were noted in the copy of the investigation report, including for Tito, addressed as Tito or Kapolda (Jakarta Police Chief).

“The security of Indonesialeaks platform has been tested with the pen test, and now it is quite good as to assure the anonymous informant,” Nawawi said. “It is certainly safe, [we have] prepared tight security because the platform credibility in public is at stake.”

Indonesialeaks` report was a sensitive issue, and so it was prone to be a target of cyber threats. “We are now focus on securing the platform and informant,” Nawawi underlined.
