TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Director of Maritime Industry, Transportation and Defence Equipment at the Industry Ministry, Putu Juli Ardika, said the production of Indonesian car called Esemka would partially use imported components from China.

“I don’t know about the whole production. I heard part of the components are imported from China,” said Putu to Bisnis, Thursday, October 11.

Putu explained no information related to the local component level in Esemka thus far. However, Esemka cars would keep striving to use local components part by part.

Imported parts for the production needs could be done through imports of completely knocked down (CKD) or incompletely knocked down units as regulated in the Industry Ministerial Decree No. 34/2017 in conjunction with Ministerial Decree No. 5/2018 on the industry of four or more-wheel vehicle, Putu mentioned.

Transportation Ministry ensured a total of eight types of Esemka cars had been certified on the type test. “We have issued SUT (Type Test Certification) to eight kinds of Esemka cars,” said Pitra Setiawan, the spokesman of Directorate General Land Transportation, on Wednesday, October 10.

The type of Esemka units included passenger cars, cargo transport vehicles or pick up cars, minibusses and double-cab cars. Some were equipped with gas engines, while others with diesel fuel.
