Online `Ojek` Drivers to Stage Rally at Merdeka Palace

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Online motorcycle taxi (ojek) drivers identifying themselves as the Two-Wheel Movement of Indonesia planned on staging a rally in front of the Merdeka Palace on Tuesday, October 2, 2018.
Movement spokesman Igun Wicaksono said the rally demanded President Jokowi fulfill the promise he made during the previous rally on Tuesday, March 27, 2018.
“At the time, President Jokowi ordered the ministers in the room to solve the problems between online ojek drivers and their companies and deal with the tariff wars between among companies,” said Igun on Monday.

Igun claimed thousands of ojek drivers would join tomorrow's rally on Jl. Merdeka Barat and Jl. Merdeka Utara.
Igun said the drivers were irked by their companies' regulations and the fact that some of their colleagues were dismissed for demanding justice and prosperity for the drivers.
“Responding to this, the government is only silent, taking refuge behind the absence of regulation for online ojek,” said Igun. Igun also said they would demand protection from the government for their rights that have been deducted for state tax.
