Go-Jek Starts Operating in Vietnam

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Go-Jek has begun its expansion to Southeast Asia with the launch of Go-Viet in Hanoi, Vietnam, September 12.
"After testing the motor-taxi hail-ride in Ho Chi Minh City, today we launch Go-Viet in Hanoi," Go-Viet founder and CEO Nguyen Vu Duc said in Hanoi.
Go-Viet started operating in August 1st the hail-ride and delivery services. Over the next few months, users will also be able to use the app to get take-out food delivery Go-Food, car-ride Go-Car, and e-wallet Go-Pay.
"We will also provide other services to cater the need of the Vietnamese people," Duc said.
Meanwhile, Go-Jek founder Nadiem Makarim said that Vietnam is the door to the company's Southeast Asian expansion. Vietnam was selected as the first overseas market due to its high number of mobile phone uses, large population, and high motorcycle ownership per capita.
"Vietnam is the perfect market to start our expansion," Nadiem said.

In two months since Go-Viet started operations, they manage to take 35 percent of Ho Chi Minh City's ride-hailing market.
Go-Jek co-founder Andre Soelistyo said the company will soon launch in Thailand, the Philippines, and Singapore.
