Japanese Athletes Sent Home on Prostitution Scandal

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Japanese delegation's helmsman Yasuhiro Yamashita said his delegation had sent home four of its men’s basketball athletes in the 2018 Asian Games for spending a night with prostitutes at a hotel in the capital.
According to Yamashita, the four athletes left the athletes village to eat at a Japanese restaurant after a game on Thursday. The athletes, who were still wearing their uniforms, spent two hours at a bar before checking-in to a hotel room, where they spent a night with four women until Friday morning.
Officials said the athletes were Takuya Hashimoto, Keita Imamura, Yuya Nagayoshi, and Takuma Sato. Yamashita said the Japanese Olympics Committee (JOC) decided to revoke the athletes’ accreditation and send them back to Japan this morning.

Yamashita said discipline was a serious issue for the JOC, and that they deeply apologized for their athletes' misconduct during the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta.
The Japanese basketball team beat Qatar with 82-71 in their second match in Jakarta and tops the Group C. They are scheduled to take on Hong Kong on Wednesday.
