TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Legal Aid Institute (LBH Jakarta) has asked the Transportation Ministry and Kereta Commuter Indonesia (KCI) to produce a minimum service standard for the city’s commuter train (KRL) to avoid any possibility of discrimination.

“The minimum service standard needs to exist to oversee and accommodate the numerous complaints that are felt by train users,” said LBH Jakarta public attorney Charlie Albajili in a written statement on Tuesday, July 24.

Charlie further elaborated that the current standard for KRL services still refers to the Transportation Ministry’s Regulation No. 48/2015 on minimum service standard for public transportation and trains. However, it does not differentiate the characteristics and needs between inter-city rail services and inner-city trains.

The issue of pushing for a better standard is a response to the numerous complaints from KRL users regarding the public services they encounter daily such as delays and cases of sexual harassment.

The most recent problem that occurred was when KCI’s e-ticketing machines underwent upgrades and maintenance that caused massive queues at train stations.

Charlie said that KCI had only responded to the problem on Sunday evening through a press conference where it announced that KRL users must purchase a Rp3,000 temporary paper tickets to board the KRLs.
