4.8 Magnitude Quake Hits Bali, No Tsunami Warning Issued

TEMPO.CO, Bandung - A 4.8-magnitude earthquake hits Bali island and Lombok on Monday morning, July 16. The tremor occurred at 06:48 local times beneath the sea. No tsunami warning was issued.
The epicenter was located at 8.89 south latitude and 115.38 east longitude. “Precisely in 25 kilometers of the west of Klungkung, Bali, 111 kilometers beneath the waters,” said the Agency for Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics (BKMG)’s chief of Earthquake Information and Tsunami Early Warning, Daryono, in a written statement today, July 16.
The tremor was felt based on the public’s report in Denpasar, Nusa Dua, Kuta, Mataram, and Central Lombok. BMKG recorded the intensity was at III-IV MMI level. Several residents were said to run from homes to save themselves.
“The quake doesn’t potentially bring tsunami,” Daryono underlined.
The earthquake, based on its depth, was caused by the subduction of Indo-Australia plate into the Eurasian plate. As of 07:11 local times, there was no aftershock occurred. BMKG further called on the public in Bali and West Nusa Tenggara to remain calm.
