TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo said based on a survey of the Gallup Global Law and Order, Indonesia is included in the category of 10 safest countries in the world. He said this achievement cannot be separated from the performance of the National Police.
“A proud achievement for all of us, it must be maintained,” said Jokowi in his speech at the ceremony of the 72nd Bhayangkara Day ceremony at Istora Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday, July 11.
Jokowi, the former governor of Jakarta, asked the Police not to be satisfied with the achievement. Because according to him, in the future, the challenge for the Police will become increasingly complex.
Jokowi said besides the demands of the people that will increase, the Police confronted also with the world situation that moves and affects in the form of new types of threats of crime. In the current digital era, according to Jokowi, Police must be able to anticipate transnational crime such as cybercrime, human trafficking, drugs, to terrorism.
“In the country, we will not forget the barbaric acts of suicide bombers who are not only causing the casualties from the community but also make the police apparatus a target,” said Jokowi.
Jokowi asked the Police to remain alert and not unmindful in performing their duties. Police were asked to make a breakthrough by making an early mapping of potential threats and order in the community.
“The police must always maintain harmony and maintain diversity values, and continue to anticipate potential horizontal conflicts that raise primordial issues such as ethnic, religious, and racial differences,” he said.
