TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta administration is set to ignite the "spirit of Jakarta to Asian Games" through a carnival slated for July 8.

“We chose a theme that links to the Asian Games, considering that Jakarta will shortly hold the 2018 Asian Games,” said the head of the Jakarta Tourism and Culture Board, Tinia Budiati, in Jakarta today.

According to Tinia, a number of Asian Games athletes will participate in the afternoon parade that will start from Jl. Medan Merdeka Selatan to Jl. Medan Merdeka Barat.

Parade participants will stop at the National Monument (Monas) area to join several additional events after the parade ends. The parade is scheduled to commence at 14:00 Western Indonesia Time (WIB) at the Arjuna Wiwaha horse statue as the starting point.

The carnival will see numerous art and culture attractions from approximately 3,000 participants. “The participants come from various art, sports, and hobby communities that are developed by the Jakarta provincial government. The parade itself will be enlivened by the participation of 70 carnival vehicles,” said Tinia.

The government hopes that this event would bring Jakartans closer to the sporting heroes of the 2018 Asian Games.
