TEMPO.CO, Bandung - The movement of the Sesar Bayah zone caused a tectonic earthquake of magnitude 3.6. It happened on Saturday night, June 23 at 11:30 pm. Centered on the land, an earthquake was felt in the area around Mount Salak.

The analysis results of Meteorology Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) designate a point source or epicenter of the earthquake lies at 6.72 coordinates of latitude and 106.57 east longitude.

“Precisely on the ground at a distance of 27 kilometers southwest of the Bogor City with the depth of 4 kilometers hypocenter,” said Daryono, BMKG Chief of Earthquake Information and Tsunami Early Warning via written statement Saturday night, June 23.

BMKG ensures the shallow crustal earthquake is triggered by active fault activity in the Sesar Bayah zone.

The impact of the earthquake was felt by some residents around the Mount Salak, such as in the area of Ciampea, Pamijahan, Mount Bunder, Cimapang, Gunungpicung, Puraseda, and Palasari.

The intensity of the earthquake scaled II MMI (Mercally Modified Intensity). “This earthquake, despite the shock was felt, but not potentially damaging,” he said.

This earthquake is the aftershocks after the previous one at 09:10 pm. At that time, it was also felt by the residents with the scale of II MMI Intensity.

Until past midnight, the aftershocks are nil. BMKG asks the public to remain calm because the earthquake that occurred has a small magnitude. The impact is not to cause damage to buildings or endanger the residents.
