TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The floodwater that flooded the Kaligawe main road, Semarang, Central Java on Wednesday afternoon, May 23, hampered the train`s movement because the train could only travel 5 kilometers per hour because of the flash flood.

Public Relation Manager of PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) Operation Area (Daop) IV Suprapto said the flash flood with the most severe altitude occurred on the line of Tawang Station to Alastua. In the area, the water is high enough and inundates the road and railway due to heavy rain.

“Therefore, the Ambarawa Express train travel was hampered, with the relation of Surabaya Pasar Turi to Semarang Poncol,” he said on Wednesday night, May 23.

According to Suprapto, although the train speed is disrupted, the delay did not occur so that the passengers should not worry because the situation is safe.

He explained that the disruption in the railway caused by the rob only occurred on the eastern path. As for the travel from the west was smooth.

“The situation has started to smooth along with the receding flood that was in Kaligawe began to shrink and the train travel gradually become normal,” said Suprapto.

Previously, Head of Data and Information Climatology Station Class I BMKG Semarang Iis Harmoko revealed from the observation of satellite images of BMKG, there is a rising tide every month reaches 100-125 cm.

“Monitored from the mean sea level measurement, there is an increase in seawater as high as 40 cm to 65 cm,” he said.
