TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The House of Representatives Speaker Bambang Soesatyo reminds the Ministry of Finance and Bank Indonesia to immediately take action to anticipate the rupiah depreciation against the US dollar.

“The stability of rupiah against dollar is an important indicator for the national economy, one of which is an increase in consumption of basic necessities ahead of Ramadan and Eid Al-Fitr,” he said on Wednesday, April 25.

The rupiah's movement against the US dollar continues to decline where it has reached Rp13,900 on Wednesday.

According to Bambang, various aspects affecting the rupiah exchange rate against the US dollar should continue to be monitored and anticipated in order to maintain its stability.

Bambang, a politician of Golkar Party also reminded the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) and State Electricity company PLN to continue make efficiency in the middle of the weakening currency.

“I hope that the rupiah depreciation will not increase the basic electricity tariff. The government has promised that it will not be increased until 2019,” said Bambang.
