KPK Czar Expects 16 Years in Jail for Setya Novanto

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Corruption Eradication Commission [KPK] chair Agus Rahardjo hopes Setya Novanto, the defendant in the electronic ID card [E-KTP] graft case, is sentenced to 16 years behind bars—as sought by KPK prosecutors.
"Sentenced [him] proportionally because he was guilty," said Agus in the House of Representatives building, Jakarta, Monday, April 23.
The Jakarta Corruption Court is slated to announce the verdict for Setya, a former House speaker, on Tuesday, April 24.
Agus said the commission had declined Setya's plea to become a justice collaborator as the latter's crimes had been revealed during the proceedings. He added he believed the presiding judge would punish Setya in keeping with prosecutors' demand.

“If God allows [Setya will be sentenced according to the demand),” Agus said.
Agus said the commission's investigation into the e-KTP graft case would not stop at Setya, but would proceed with other clusters that might implicate not only other lawmakers but government officials and entrepreneurs as well.

"We'll look into [the case] and see if it needs a follow-up," said Agus.
Agus said complete reports were necessary for continued probe into the case, beginning from the case's developments, investigation, to prosecution.
