Motorcycle Sales Up in March

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Motorcycle sales in March experience wholesale growth during the first quarter of this year. The Indonesian Motorcycle Industry Association (AISI) recorded that the motorcycle distribution in March reached 535,371 units or 21.79 percent higher compared to February 2018 at 439,586 units.


The sales in March 2018 amounted to 535,371 units is also bigger than in March 2017, at 473,896. Honda had a 13.28 percent increase, Kawasaki 33.60 percent, and Yamaha 55.83 percent.


Honda sold 384,187 units of the motorcycle last month from 339,152 units in February, Kawasaki sold 13,969 units in March from 10,456 units and Yamaha sold 133,126 units last month from 85,429 units.

Meanwhile, Suzuki and TVS experienced lower sales last month. Suzuki sales decreased from 4,500 to 4,077 units in March and TVS from 49 units to 12 units last month.


The motorcycle domestic market in the first quarter of this year up 3.99 percent compared to the same period in last year.


AISI noted, motorcycles sales in the domestic market reached 1.46 million during the first three months of this year. While in the same period last year, it only amounted to 1.40 million units.


Of the total sales in January-March 2018, Yamaha and Kawasaki are the two brands recorded more distribution compared to January-March 2017. Both brands have sold of 341,544 and 31,934 motorcycle units.
