Street vendors in Tanah Abang

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The street vendors in Jl. Jatibaru Raya, Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta voiced their readiness to be relocated by the Jakarta Regional Administration. That statement was conveyed to the Jakarta Ombudsman during the rally today, Tuesday, April 3.

Jatibaru street vendors representative Giswar Ranto Muda said the street vendors willing to be moved with certain conditions. Even though when the protest started they yelled that Ombudsman is anti-street vendor by stating the road closure in Jl. Jatibaru Raya as maladministration regulation.

“The condition is the city government should have prepared new place [for the street vendors],” he said in Ombudsman Building, South Jakarta.

Giswar claimed he did not know where the new location is but he believed that the city officials Anies Baswedan and Sandiaga Uno committed to helping them. He asserted that he will accept whatever decision given by the Governor.

According to the Head of Jakarta Ombudsman Dominikus Dalu, the street vendors delivered their reasons to stay doing business in Jl. Jatibaru Raya. “The reason is that it’s their livelihood and if they will be relocated, the place should be better and permanent,” he stated after the meeting.

After undergoing discussion, Dominikus Dalu as Ombudsman official said the street vendors are willing to be relocated so long they will be given an alternative place. Jakarta administration also had communication with the street vendors. “We are optimist the best solution for Tanah Abang management will come out,” said the Governor Anies Baswedan.
