Perry Warjiyo Named New BI Governor; Bankers Convey Hope

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Perry Warjiyo has been officially named the new Bank Indonesia Governor after the House of Representatives (DPR) declared him passing the fit and proper tests. Bankers are hoping that Indonesia`s economy will improve under Perry`s leadership at the central bank.
Bank Mayapada Internasional president director Haryono Tjahjarijadi said that Perry's background and experiences can help the central bank strengthen the monetary system, keep inflation low, and stabilize the rupiah exchange rate.

"With that, we hope that the real economic growth can increase, and thus boost the demand for credit," he said here on Tuesday, April 3rd.
Meanwhile, the Rural Development Bank of East Java's director of finance Ferdian Timur Satyagraha said he hoped Perry can support rural banks as agents of regional economy.
"We hope Perry can issue macroprudential policies that support us as rural banks, including statutory reserve requirement (GWM) policies," he said.
Perry Warjiyo will be sworn into office on May 23rd, 2018.
