Bank Indonesia to Start Office in IKN Starting August 17

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bank Indonesia (BI) Governor Perry Warjiyo said on Wednesday that BI will have its office in the Nusantara Capital City (IKN) starting August 17, 2024.
"God willing, on August 17 we will join the government to have our head office in IKN," Perry said during the press conference.
He explained that the law stipulates that the central bank of Indonesia is positioned in the National Capital. Therefore, the Bank Indonesia headquarters will also be in IKN, as the new capital city.
However, the Bank Indonesia office in Jakarta will remain the center for most operational activities. "Of course, BI has branches throughout Indonesia and Jakarta will remain the center of activity. Most operations, including payments, monetary, foreign exchange reserves, and financial sector, are in Jakarta," Perry said.
He said that the COVID-19 pandemic has made Bank Indonesia accustomed to hybrid work patterns, a combination of offline and online.
Perry gave an example of BI Deputy Governor Juda Agung who was on a business trip outside Jakarta but still able to attend the BI Board of Governors Meeting which lasts for two days.
"And it is legal according to the Board of Governors Regulation. Thus, even though [BI] is positioned elsewhere, we can carry out activities digitally, virtually," Perry said.
Previously, the Head of the IKN Authority Bambang Susantono together with President Joko Widodo or Jokowi had carried out the groundbreaking of the BI headquarters on November 2, 2023. Jokowi said that the construction of the Bank Indonesia office complex signifies the government's seriousness, commitment, and readiness to build IKN.
"The existence of the BI office building in IKN can increase public confidence, the business world, and investors," Jokowi said on November 5, 2023. According to him, the construction of the Bank Indonesia office complex also shows readiness to support sustainable economic growth in IKN.
