TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), in a speech, shared his view on Future of Indonesia in 2030, which was the opposite to Prabowo Subianto`s prediction about the country that made headlines lately.

“By the year 2030, we will likely be in the top ten or seven world’s strongest economy,” said Jokowi in a speech at the national conference of national association of Indonesia’s regional legislative council in Jakarta today, March 27.

Furthermore, the president urged the Indonesian people to be collectively certain that it could be achieved. Jokowi’s view is based on the sentiments of several world economic institutions.

He continued his speech by quoting the calculations done by McKinsey and World Bank that suggest Indonesia can position itself as a country with the fifth best economy by the year 2040 or 2045. The country he is currently leading is ranked as the 16th world economy.

However, Jokowi honestly said that Indonesia is still hampered by several things that must be solved together.

“Especially inequality and poverty, which we must solve together starting from the central government up to other regions. We must work hard to solve these problems,” Jokowi said.

Previously, in a video footage published by Gerindra Party’s Facebook account, Prabowo Subianto was giving an enthusiastic speech which at one point said that there were studies overseas suggesting that Indonesia would seize to exist by 2030.

Prabowo said that it would be possible due to the apathy of Indonesia’s elites on the fact that 80 percent of the country’s land is controlled by one percent of the people, which also applies to the country’s natural wealth.
