KPPU Demands Report of Uber - Grab Acquisition

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Commission for Business Competition Supervision (KPPU) demanded for the acquisition report from Grab company after acquiring Uber in Southeast Asia, as stated by the commission’s director of policy advocacy and evaluation Taufik Achmad.
“After the report submitted, we will assess the matter. The result will be evaluated in the commission meeting and become the KPPU recommendation,” said Taufik on Monday, March 26.
Uber Technologies Inc. and Grab announced the acquisition of Uber's business in Southeast Asia on Monday morning, March 26. Grab has completely acquited all Uber’s business lines, including Uber Eats.

The acquisition let Uber controlled 27.5 percent of the company's shares and it CEO became one of Grab commissioner under the management of Dara Khosrowshahi.
As for the possibility of merger problem between both companies, Taufik was reluctant to give comments. According to him, in submitting a notification, the commission will consider the business competition as an impact of the company merger and acquisition.
Taufik stated both companies, Uber and Grab, has yet to discuss the matter with KPPU. “KPPU will examine the notification based on Law No. 5/1999,” he added. Throughout 2017, KPPU recorded 90 notification of merger and acquisition. While, in January to March 25, 2018, as many 10 notifications has been reported.
