TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia was shocked to hear the information about the execution of an Indonesian migrant worker (TKI) in Saudi Arabia named Muhammad Zaini Misrin.

The execution of the death penalty took place on Sunday, March 18, at 15:30 pm.

According to the Director of Protection of Indonesian Citizens of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Muhammad Iqbal, Indonesia did not receive any notification regarding the execution of Zaini's death penalty.

It made Indonesia very disappointed with Saudi Arabia considering the relationship between both countries is very close and the judicial review (PK) of the case is still running.

"Indonesia understands that Saudi Arabia has national rules that there is no obligation of the Saudi government to notify a death sentence execution.

However, with the close relations between both countries, it is appropriate that the government of Saudi Arabia provide a notification," said Iqbal at the Foreign Ministry office, Jakarta, Monday, March 19.

Indonesia's disappointment was poured through the calling of Saudi Arabian Ambassador in Jakarta, Osama bin Muhammad al-Shuaibi, by the Foreign Ministry today.

Not only that, an official protest to Saudi Arabia was also done by the Indonesian Ambassador in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Agus Maftuh, by posting a protest note to the Foreign Ministry of Saudi Arabia.

In accordance with the rules of Saudi Arabia, Zaini's body had been buried in the city of Mecca as soon as the execution was done.

Zaini is a migrant worker from Bangkalan, Madura, East Java. He left a wife, who is now in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and two children, who are in Bangkalan, Madura.

The Indonesian government has expressed condolences to the Zaini family. The family, who had been involved in Zaini's liberation efforts in Saudi Arabia, said they had accepted the incident sincerely.
