Padang Sees Decrease in Red Chili Prices

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The price of red chili decreases at Pasar Raya Center in Padang City, West Sumatra, in the previous week it was Rp56,000 per kilogram, now it is Rp44,000 per kilogram.
"The price decline of red chili is Rp12 thousand per kilogram due to the supply that returns to normal from Java Island," said Isan (31), a trader in Pasar Raya Padang City, Monday, March 19.
He mentioned, besides being supplied by the local farmers, the red chili in Padang city also imported from Java and North Sumatra.
The traders also mentioned that the buyers, especially residents of Padang City, prefer the red chilies supplied from the Java because it is not too spicy.
Besides the red chili, tomato prices also decreased from Rp6,000 or Rp8,000 per kilogram to Rp4,000 per kilogram.
"The decreasing price of tomatoes is due to the abundant supply caused in the production centers, namely in Bukittinggi, is harvesting," said Deni, another trader.
Besides chili, the vegetable prices are stable and being monitored in traditional shopping centers in Padang city, such as carrots Rp6,000 per kg and beans Rp8,000 per kg.
