Police Asked to Investigate Viral Video of Adelina

A family relative of Adelina, a tortured Indonesian housemaid in MALAYSIA, is seen crying over Adelina`s coffin.

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A video footage displaying persecution of Indonesian migrant worker went viral on social media. The 2-minute 13-second video is allegedly experienced by migrant worker Adelina Lisao who died in Malaysia on February 11. Migrant Care Executive Director Wahyu Susilo has not been able to confirm the video.


He stated that whoever the victim, persecution is a very cruel act. "The perpetrators deserve to be severely punished," Wahyu said on Monday, February 26.


In the video, an employer kicked and stomped the head of a female worker who allegedly to be Adelina Lisao behind a building. The female worker was also beaten with wooden beams for many times.

Wahyu said that such violent video is not decent for public consumption. He also requested legal authorities to immediately investigate the video. "The authorities have to investigate it," he added.


Previously, Foreign Ministry's director for the protection of Indonesian nationals and entities abroad Lalu Muhammad Iqbal also has not been able to ensure the young women in the video as Adelina. His staff has long asked for confirmation to the Royal Malaysian Police to make sure the woman in the video is Adelina. However, until now they have yet responded.


Adelina Lisao died a day after being rescued from her employer's residence in Penang, Malaysia, February 10, 2018. The neighbors reported that Adelina was forced to sleep beside the kennels, in the parking area of her employer's house. Her face and body were covered with wounds.


Two of Adelina's employers are prosecuted in Malaysia. Reuters noted on Wednesday, February 21, M.A. Ambika (60) was charged with murder with the death penalty. While the employers’ daughter was charged for having recruited foreign workers without valid documents.
