Car export

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Trade Ministry stated that Indonesia`s car exports to Vietnam are going to be halted. This is due to the new import regulation to be issued in Vietnam.

"Government is currently preparing some strategies to counter the issuance of regulation on whole car exports to Vietnam," Trade Ministry’s International Trade Director-general Oke Nurwan said on Friday, Feb. 16.

Oke claimed Indonesia strongly objects the regulation, and the government will attempt to make a persuasive approach and lobby the Vietnamese authorities. "A team of delegate directly led by International Trade Director-general will be sent to negotiate," he went on.

Oke explained that the requirements set by Vietnam will potentially halt Indonesia’s exports. In addition, he continued, the issuance of Decree No. 116/2017/ND-CP will cost a loss of US$85 millions of export potential.

Oke stated, in their regulation, Vietnam required international standards for vehicle roadworthiness including emission and safety standards. "Vietnam does not consider Indonesian National Standard Indonesia (SNI) meet their criteria," he added.
