Third Runway of Soekarno-Hatta Airport to Complete in 2019

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Transportation Ministry targets to complete the construction of the third runway of Soekarno-Hatta Airport by June 2019. Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi reported the progress in which it is still in the process of land clearance and taxiway construction.


Land clearance is targeted to finish on April this year. "The length of the third runway reaches 3,000 meters," Minister Budi said inCengkareng, Jakarta on Saturday (3/2).


Budi explained that at the moment airport taxiway is being built and it is scheduled to complete in Februari 2018. Taxiway is the road that connects the runway with the airplane’s hangar and terminal.


State-owned airport operator PT Angkasa Pura CEO Muhammad Awaluddin revealed that the third runway requires 216 hectares of land and 90 hectares have been acquired.


Meanwhile for the budget, this runway is funded by means of state capital injection (PMN) as much as Rp4 trillion. The constructions of taxiway and runway alone will cost Rp1.8 trillion.
