TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has yet to submit a candidate to succeed Agus Martowardojo as the Bank Indonesia (BI) Governor to the House of Representatives.
The central bank governor Agus Martowardojo will retire in May 2018.
According to Jokowi, the new BI Governor must be someone whom the public and the market can trust. But he did not mention any names to replace Agus.
Agus was elected as BI Governor on March 26, 2013, through a voting at the House's Finance Commission. At that time, 46 of a total 54 votes, approved him as the BI Governor, while 7 votes denied, and 1 vote abstained.
Agus Martowardojo was nominated as Bank Indonesia Governor in 2008 but was not elected. In May 2010, he was inaugurated by the then President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) as the Finance Minister to replace Sri Mulyani.
