TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Police Insp. Gen. Idham Azis guarantees that there will be no sweeping carried out by any groups during 2017 Christmas. Idham stated that the police have anticipated such an act.
"I have instructed all district police chiefs to anticipate sweeping during Christmas. No sweeping is allowed," Idham stated on Friday, Dec. 8.
On last year’s Christmas, hard-line organization Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) conducted acts of raiding in public places to spread an edict issued by Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) that forbids Muslims to wear Christmas attire.
In order to prevent raids in Jakarta, Idham Azis has instructed all district police chiefs to coordinate with local mass organizations to forbid raids. "We must ensure that Christmas can run well in an orderly manner," Idham added.
