TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Darmin Nasution stated that the government aims to achieve 5.4 percent economic growth as set in 2018 State Budget (APBN). However, he estimated that the economy can grow higher than the target.
Darmin’s estimation is based on the growth of investments and exports. In addition, the government will improve household expenditures and consumption to further boost the economy.

Another factor contributing to the growth is the general election. Indonesia is set to hold the general election in 171 regions. "Normally, general election contributes 0.1 to 0.2 percent economic growth," the minister said in Jakarta on Friday, Dec. 8.
He added that the upcoming Asian Games has the potential to significantly push the economic growth.
With those supporting factors, Darmin is convinced that the economy can grow higher than the government’s target. "An increase of 0.2 to 0.3 percent is reasonable," he continued.
This year, Darmin Nasution estimated that economic growth will reach 5.1 percent. Such a figure is lower than the 5.2 percent. The prediction is based on the realization of economic growth all year round with very little increase.
