TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Governor Anies Baswedan has promised government jobs to disabled people in Jakarta.
Anies said that disabled people have long been marginalized, adding that many of them have a huge potential and are capable of working as government officials. He said that the workload will be adjusted according to their abilities.
As for recruitment mechanism, the Governor said that he will hold talks with the Social Affairs Office and other officials. He promises that the process can start in 2018 after the Regional Employment Agency forms a small team. “That way, they will go through a special method, special mechanism, special recruitment process to work as Jakarta government officials,” he said.
Anies Baswedan expects other agencies to follow suit, both public and private, in order to provide more employment opportunities to disabled people. Moreover, he is hopeful that Jakarta will become friendlier to people with disability.
