TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - National Police chief Gen. Tito Karnavian said that the rumors of the death of Bahrun Naim will affect future terror acts in Indonesia.

“It will have a real effect,” said Tito Karnavian at the Pondok Cabe military airport on Tuesday, December 5.

Bahrun Naim played a role as the liaison between ISIS and Indonesian terrorist figures. “Bahrun Naim was an intermediary between ISIS elites, ISIS central, with group leaders and suspects that are in Indonesia,” said Tito. However, he explained that he cannot confirm the death of the terrorist.

Police first detected the involvement of Barhun Naim and his links to ISIS in the Thamrin bomb attack. General Tito compared Bahrun Naim with Hambali that had a role as a liaison for the international terrorist group Al Qaeda and the Southeast Asian militant extremist Jemaah Islamiyah.

The rumor of Bahrun Naim's death was first spread through a conversation emerging in social media. Tito argued that the news of the terrorist's death might possibly be another mere social media rumor.

Bahrun Naim was said to have died in a battle against Syrian army on November 30.
