When journalists asked another question about the meeting, the President insisted on answering the question briefly. “Anyone [can see me]. There’s nothing wrong with seeing me,” he added.

The meeting between Jokowi and Airlangga took place at the Bogor Palace before the Functional Group (Golkar) Party’s extraordinary national congress. The congress was scheduled to replace Setya Novanto as the chairman, who was named as a suspect in the electronic ID card (e-KTP) corruption case.

Airlangga reportedly asking for permission from Jokowi to succeed Setya Novanto. In addition to Airlangga, other names mentioned as candidates of Golkar Party chairman include Golkar secretary-general Idrus Marham. However, Airlangga is believed to be the strongest candidate.

Vice President Jusuf Kalla said Airlangga is the best candidate to fill the position.
