TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Functional Group (Golkar) Party secretary-general Sarmuji revealed that inactive Golkar chairman Setya Novanto had said he was not involved in the electronic ID cards (e-KTP) corruption case.

“Setya Novanto said that during the Golkar’s occasion held at Hotel RedTop in Jakarta a while ago. He clarified that he was not involved,” Sarmuji said in a discussion held on Saturday, November 25.

Earlier, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) detained Setya Novanto in related to the e-KTP corruption case. The Golkar Party chairman allegedly fixed the procurement process to enrich himself and caused Rp2.3 trillion in state losses.

Setya later filed a pretrial motion with the South Jakarta District Court challenging his suspect naming. He also plead to the House of Representatives (DPR) and Golkar to give him an opportunity to defend himself.

Not only claiming being innocent, Sarmuji Added, Setya also stated that no funds from the e-KTP graft case had been distributed to Golkar if he was proven guilty. Therefore, Sarmuji hopes that Golkar will not be affected by Setya’s case.

“Even if [Setya Novanto] is guilty, I think this is a personal case. Not a single cent had been given to Golkar. That’s what Setya said,” Sarmuji asserted.
