TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) may pick Batakan Stadium in East Kalimantan as the venue to play friendly matches ahead of Asian Games and the AFF Cup in 2018.

“We hope Batakan Stadium in Balikpapan City can be used for the preparations before the national team competes at Asian Games and the AFF Cup,” PSSI deputy chairman Joko Driyono said today, Nov. 9.

Batakan Stadium was also used to hold the so-called Master Cup featuring the legends of Arsenal, Liverpool and the Indonesian national team.

Joko viewed that the stadium is worthy of hosting international football matches. “Balikpapan’s Batakan Stadium may become an option for the Indonesian national team international friendly venue outside Java,” he said.

He lauded the governments of Balikpapan and East Kalimantan for building a world-class stadium.

PSSI deputy chairman Joko Driyono also praises the luxurious design of Batakan Stadium that cost Rp1.3 trillion to build.
