TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Workers’ Union Confederation (KSPI) says that it is planning to pull support for Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan over 2018 minimum wage.

The organization will hold a press conference to convey its stance and plan for a rally. “[We] are planning for a 10 November rally demanding Anies-Sandi mandate be revoked,” KSPI official Kahar S. Cahyono stated in an invitation received by Tempo via WhatsApp messaging service.

The press conference will be held today at KSPI office in East Jakarta at 12 pm. Kahar said that chairman Said Iqbal and other officials will be present.

Kahar also said that KSPI members from other cities will be joining the rally to be held in front of the State Palace in Jakarta. “Laborers will also name Anies-Sandi as the fathers of low wages and the governor [and deputy governor] who broke their promise the quickest,” he noted.

The demand to revoke Anies-Sandi mandate is issued following the administration’s decision to set Jakarta minimum wage at Rp3.6 million. Workers said that the figure is not compatible with a living standard survey that the province’s minimum wage should be set at Rp3.9 million.
