TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Hundreds of workers rallied to the Jakarta City Hall demanding the city administration to raise the provincial minimum wage (UMP). The Jakarta Wage Council earlier proposed the UMP to be raised to Rp3,648,035 or Rp3,917,398.
The former figure was proposed by business owners and the government based on Government Regulation No. 78/2015 on wage, while the latter was proposed by labor unions based on the standard cost of living (KHL).
Jakarta Workers Coalition coordinator Tarmidzi called on the Jakarta administration to set the UMP as requested by the labor union. The figure was calculated by taking the economic growth and inflation rate into account.
“It is impossible for the KHL to be lower than the UMP. The Jakarta’s UMP in 2018 should be set at Rp3,903,700,” Tarmidzi said at the Jakarta City Hall on Tuesday, October 31.
Tarmidzi added that the UMP must be set based on a market survey and the economic growth. “Hopefully, [the UMP] will be raised to Rp3,903,000,” he said.
